My first topic in the world of blogs is about 'Panchangam' - a common word used in every house of our clan. Believing that all of my blogs would add lot of new and interesting information to us, I start it off..... with all your wishes and blessings......
Everyone of us is familiar with the
word 'Panchangam'. All of us know that the permit to perform any
function/occasion/spiritual activity etc lies in the notations and
details in this calendar. Some of us depend on astrologers to know it while most of us are masters ourselves.
Why is this name?
Basically the word 'Panchangam' means five parts - Panch(a) Angam.
- Thithi
- Vaaram
- Nakshatram
- Yogam
- Karanam
It gives a complete information of all the above entities for a complete year/years that are realized during the end of the previous year by experienced astrologers. There are different varieties of Panchangam for people belonging to this multicultural society. In ancient times, people believed that even a man's Karma(day-to-day activities) depended on these calculations. For instance, they strictly followed one important concept that Panchangam emphasized i.e. "Directions to be avoided on days of a week".
